The 2025 first harvest is about to start.  The first harvest will be what we call first cut grass. First cut grass is the first cut of the new season’s grass and it’s called first because there may be two or three cuts in a year depending on how well the grass grows.

This year, the warm dry weather means than grass growing, after a good start, has slowed down and will be slightly later that usual (unless we get some sudden downpours).  Therefore, we’re expecting harvest to commence some time around the 3rd week or may be even at the end of May.  We’ll be badging up tractor/ trailers as usual so keep an eye out for our farmers delivering feed for the renewable gas that’s now powering Wincanton!

The map to the left shows the location of the Brains Farm RNG plant and the circle is the rough area where this first cut of grass is coming from.  We expect between 2,500 and 4,000 tonnes of grass, depending on rainfall and temperatures between now and mowing time.
